Step 5: Prepare Your Houseplants for Life Indoors
As temperatures cool, it’s time to welcome your houseplants back inside for the season. While they’ve thrived in the warmth, sunlight, and fresh air outdoors, the shift indoors can be stressful if not done thoughtfully. A little preparation now means your plants stay healthy, happy, and pest-free all winter long.
Here’s how to transition your houseplants successfully:
1. Inspect for Pests
Before bringing plants indoors, check leaves (top and underside), stems, and soil for pests like
aphids, mealybugs, and spider mites.
A quick rinse with water or a natural insecticidal spray can help knock populations down before they spread inside.
2. Prune and Clean
Remove dead or yellowing leaves and trim back leggy growth.
Wipe leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust and improve photosynthesis once indoors.
3. Repot if Needed
If roots are circling or pushing out of the pot, now is a good time to repot into fresh, organic soil before the transition.
Otherwise, leave them in place to avoid transplant shock.
4. Adjust Gradually
If possible, acclimate plants by moving them to shadier, protected spots outdoors for
a week or two before bringing them inside.
This helps them adjust to lower light levels.
5. Support with KozGro’s House Plant Elixir
Indoor conditions can be tough — lower light, drier air, and less airflow mean your plants need strong roots
and resilient leaves. That’s where our House Plant Elixir comes in.
Made with kelp, humic acid, alfalfa, and essential oils, it:
Reduces stress during the transition indoors
Strengthens root systems for stable growth
Helps plants adjust to reduced light and humidity
Boosts overall vitality, so they thrive year-round
💧 How to Use: Mix 1 teaspoon per quart of water and apply every 2–3 weeks to
water your houseplants as they settle into their indoor environment.
6. Find the Right Spot
Once inside, group plants with similar light needs, keep them away from cold drafts and
heating vents, and rotate them regularly to ensure even growth.
🍂 With a little care — and a boost from House Plant Elixir — your plants will not only
survive indoors but thrive until it’s time to head back outside next spring.
