Step 1:
Rebuild & Re-hydrate Summer-Stressed Lawns

Part of the KozGro Fall Prep Series

Long, hot summer days can be brutal on your lawn. Intense heat, inconsistent watering, and heavy foot traffic leave grass blades dry, thin, and patchy — and the soil beneath them depleted. But fall is your lawn’s second chance. With cooler temperatures, morning dew, and softer sunlight, your turf can bounce back stronger than ever… if you give it the right care now.

Here’s how to rebuild and re-hydrate so your lawn heads into winter healthy — and wakes up lush in spring.

1. Hydrate Deeply and Consistently

Summer-stressed lawns often suffer from shallow roots. Help them reach deeper by watering thoroughly — about 1 inch per week — in the early morning to reduce evaporation. Deep watering encourages stronger root systems, which are your lawn’s best defense against next year’s heat.

💡 Pro Tip: Place an empty tuna can on your lawn when watering. When it’s full, you’ve reached about an inch.

💧 Pro Care Step: After watering, apply Lawn & Landscape to help rehydrate soil on a microbial level. Mix 1–2 oz per gallon of water and apply to cover 1,000 sq ft. This supports soil recovery while the moisture carries it deep into the root zone.

2. Restore Soil Health with KozGro Lawn & Landscape

A strong lawn starts with healthy soil. Instead of dumping synthetic nutrients, focus on rebuilding the soil’s ability to support growth naturally.

Lawn & Landscape is a regenerative soil amendment made with:

  • Kelp – Supports root development and stress recovery

  • Humic Acid – Improves soil structure and nutrient availability

  • Alfalfa – Naturally stimulates healthy growth processes

  • Essential Oils – Promotes plant vigor and supports soil biology

💧 Application Tip: Mix 1–2 oz per gallon of water to cover 1,000 sq ft. Apply every 2–4 weeks through fall for best results.

3. Repair Bare or Thin Spots

Cooler temperatures make fall the perfect season to overseed. Choose a grass type suited to your region, spread seed evenly over patchy areas, and lightly rake it in for good soil contact. Keep the area consistently moist until seedlings are well established.

💧 Pro Care Step: After seeding, apply Lawn & Landscape (same 1–2 oz per gallon per 1,000 sq ft rate) to encourage healthy seedling establishment and root development.

4. Aerate if Needed

If your lawn feels compacted, aerating now can make a big difference. Aeration opens up pathways for water, air, and microbial life to reach the roots — exactly what stressed lawns need to recover.

💧 Pro Care Step: Apply Lawn & Landscape immediately after aeration at the same rate (1–2 oz per gallon per 1,000 sq ft). This allows the product to move deeper into the soil, accelerating regeneration.

5. Keep Mowing — But Adjust the Height

Continue mowing until growth naturally slows for winter, but raise your mower blade to 3–3.5 inches. Longer blades shade the soil, reduce water loss, and protect the grass crown from temperature swings.

💧 Pro Care Step: Apply Lawn & Landscape after mowing to give the lawn an even coat. This helps reduce plant stress from cutting and strengthens the grass for the next growth cycle.

Your Lawn’s Recovery Timeline

With consistent moisture, soil regeneration, and the regular use of Lawn & Landscape, you’ll notice thicker, more resilient grass in just a few weeks — ready to face winter and burst back in spring.
